I created this project to solve a problem, to speed up my own design process and experiment further with my ability to code unique websites.
I had discovered that there are about 30 typefaces that make up 90% of all typography used in media today. As a designer, if you decide to use a different typeface you should have a really good reason that you can defend. Most typefaces you find on the web are unrefined and have not gone through the grueling process that the top 30 have.
The inspiration for this website came from podcast, tutorials, and Netflix specials from world renowned designers who’s work inspires me. Christoph Niemann is a fantastic designer who educated me on thinking outside the box and made me realize you can’t force creativity but you can setup an environment that gives it a chance to happen, half the battle is just showing up and focusing your attention.
Chris Do is another award winning designer who I have learned from and it was his list of 25 typefaces that led me to further research typography trends in the industry. His work has inspired me to look at the bigger picture, to understand the business of design and brand strategy.
The final website is extremely simplistic, the focus is on creating a lot of white space around the generated words, this is used as a tool not to look “pretty”.
